Our Story
Big John Earthworks started with a simple goal: to offer reliable, heavy-duty service for rural property owners who needed help they could count on.
From small family acreages to large-scale build sites, we’ve dug, cleared, hauled, and helped countless Alberta landowners move their projects forward with confidence.
We’re certified in septic design and installation, and we’re proud members of the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association (AOWMA).
Being family-owned means everything to us. When your name’s on the side of the truck, you take pride in what you do. We run our business with simple, honest values:
-
Hard Work – We don’t cut corners. We do the job right.
-
Respect – For your land, your time, and your trust in us.
-
Straight Talk – No fancy sales pitch, just the truth about what you need.
-
Accountability – If we say we’re gonna be there, we show up ready.
-
Community – We’re your neighbors, not just your contractors.
We treat every job like we’re working on our own land — because chances are, we’ve stood in the same muddy boots, facing the same challenges.

What Makes Us Different
Big John is certified as a Wastewater Management Practitioner for Private Sewer Systems through the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association. In spring 2025, Big John will be introducing the innovative technology of Pneumatic Soil Fracturing. This new service will bring affordable and environmentally friendly options for homeowners whose septic drain fields are coming to the end of their lifespan. Big John will be the only Licensed practitioner to offer this service in Western Canada.
Our Values
As a family-owned and operated company, our values are rooted in honesty, hard work, and genuine care for the people we serve. We treat every job like it’s on our own land, and every customer like a neighbor — because in rural communities, your word and your work mean everything.
We believe in:
- Doing things right the first time
- Showing up when we say we will
- Offering straightforward pricing without upselling
- Respecting your land and leaving it better than we found it
These values shape every relationship we build — whether we're digging a foundation, designing a septic system, or helping a homeowner restore their drain field. When you hire Big John, you’re not just hiring equipment — you’re hiring a crew that’s proud to stand behind their name.

Our Vision
Our vision is to be operating our new Soil de-compacting system across British Columbia and Saskatchewan, while growing our fleet of equipment and bringing affordable and environmentally friendly options to Canadian homeowners.
